TEACHING AND SPORTS

ABW are designing new and expanded teaching facilities at Burnley College’s campus to accommodate increasing student numbers. This includes a new teaching building as well as an extension to the existing sports building and potential further campus expansion. The site offers rich context – including the culverted River Calder and grade II listed Railway Viaduct.

The new four storey teaching building is simple but strong in form, acknowledging the complex forms of the existing college buildings and industrial context. Internally, each floor is designed around a central space, and moments are created to appreciate views of the arches, river and toward Pendle Hill on the upper floors.

Enabling work began November 2020, handover is expected early 2022.
