Scarisbrick Hall Performing Arts Centre

ABW were appointed by Scarisbrick Hall School to design new performing arts facilities. The site presents interesting challenges given the significant historical context. The school itself is a Grade 1 Listed building designed by Augustin Pugin (architect of the Palace of Westminster). The location for the new proposal includes a historic gas works which will be incorporated into the scheme.

Due on site Easter 2021, the project comprises two blocks, either side of the Gas Works. Across the two blocks the facilities provided will include; an auditorium, dance rehearsal spaces, classrooms and recording studios.
The performance block is mainly a one-storey building that wraps around a two-storey core which serves as the auditorium. The building outlines the northern boundary of the site, continuing a typology that defines the former walled garden.
