ABW have achieved planning consent for a contemporary new build home, Oxton, Wirral. The house replaces Victorian workshop within the grounds of our client's existing home.
Constrained by neighbouring houses, the building has a relatively narrow plan. The top lit core of the house will be an integral part of the open plan living at ground floor level to give an apparent generosity of space that belies the actual plan area.
The 2 storey section house is set back from the road to overlook an enclosed private garden space to the front.
Externally, the objective has been to keep the height of the building below its neighbours and to break up to form of the building to reduce the apparent scale. This has been addressed through the design of the roof and use of contrasting materials.
